Experience-exchange of BRAC-Chevron livelihood projects



To improve the socio-economic development of the backward population of Bangladesh, strengthen partnerships of different development organizations and corporates. Knowledge acquired by joint venture with BRAC-Chevron will also help in implementing other projects in the future. Speakers expressed their views on the experience-exchange program in a hotel in Dhaka on Monday.

The livelihood project is being implemented in the Sylhet Sadar, Moulvibazar and Habiganj districts for the socioeconomic development of the people of adjacent areas of gas field headed by Chevron. In October 2015, BRAC's integrated development program (IDP) and Chevron's Bangladesh Partnership Initiative (BPI) launched this project. The current phase of the project will end in December this year. These development activities are being considered by the Village Development Organization (Video) as a basis for the communities which live in the gas field.

Regional agency 'Idea' is working as an associate of BRAC to make this development program accelerated and fruitful in the field level. Under this project, socio-economic development of 22 thousand families of 3,671 families through 112 videos has been developed.

Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Ministry Secretary Md. Kamal Uddin Talukder. The special guest was the same registrar and general manager of the ministry. Abdul Majid, Chevron Bangladesh's President Neil Menezes, Chevron Bangladesh Policy, Government and Public Affairs Director Ismail Chowdhury and BRAC's Advocacy for Social Change Program Director K M Morshed. Presided over by Mr Annamiz, director of BRAC Community Empowerment Program.

Chief guest. Kamal Uddin Talukdar said this joint venture between Brac and renowned corporation Chevron, one of the world's largest development organizations, for the financial and social development of the underprivileged people of the greater Sylhet region, is truly appreciable.
